Private & Confidential Transfer Insights
We would like to share the following list of universities based on the potential admission opportunities for Marco. These options will depend on three possible scenarios: full pay, hybrid model, or the highest financial aid package.
Clarification Note:
We refer to the concept of a “pre-read” at several universities.
A pre-read in the U.S. college admissions process is an unofficial early evaluation conducted by the admissions office (and sometimes the athletic department) to determine whether a candidate meets the academic and/or athletic standards required before submitting a formal application.
When and why is a pre-read done?
- It usually takes place several months before the official application deadline, especially for international students or athletes interested in selective institutions.
- It is common at Ivy League schools and other elite universities.
- Coaches often request a pre-read to confirm whether a candidate has a realistic chance of being admitted before moving forward with recruitment.
What information is required?
To conduct a pre-read, universities typically ask for:
- Academic transcripts (high school and/or college grades).
- Standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, etc.), if available.
- Information about academic rigor (types of courses taken, level of difficulty).
- Occasionally, letters of recommendation or counselor reports.
What kind of response can be expected?
Although a pre-read is not a formal admission decision, the feedback is indicative:
- “Academically viable” or “on track” – The student meets the institution’s academic parameters.
- “Borderline” – The student may have a chance if improvements are made or other factors strengthen the profile.
- “Not competitive” – The student does not currently meet admission standards.
Why is it important?
- It allows the student and their support team (family, tutors, coaches) to plan strategically.
- For athletes, it helps coaches determine whether they can proceed with the recruitment process.
- It avoids investing time and effort in universities where admission chances are very low.
